My flash driver win98

Step 3 On the System Properties window, click on the 'General' tab. Look up the system heading and search the version number. If the version number is 4. However, if the number states 4. After the computer has completed downloading, run the EXE file and follow the instructions on the screen. Once installation has finished, reboot your computer. The 3. After you have installed these drivers, after you have plugged in or installed a USB device that hasn't been plugged in or installed before, you are prompted to have Windows search for drivers - do that, it will find the drivers, and that same USB device is detected automatically when it's plugged in or installed after that.

These drivers work for many devices, but there are some they can't detect. Some internal modems are WinModems and require special drivers to work. So it's very possible that you will have more luck with an external one, or at least you can rule out any driver issues.

It's more likely USB 1. Almost all USB 2. Of course, you will still need drivers. Windows 98 was much more needful of loading drivers off floppy disks or CD-ROMs than more modern versions of Windows are. Even worse than the unfortunately still existent GDI printers.

Just truly horrible. After fiddling with drivers, I tried a different brand of flash drive Lexar and it worked! Windows brought up the wizard but this time detected drivers and everything worked seamlessly. Actually more seamlessly than modern versions of Windows! So perhaps some USB drives work and some do not.

The internal modem is a Compaq 56k one, the second internal modem I installed is a Dell one I believe. Show 5 more comments. Active Oldest Votes. Improve this answer. Community Bot 1. I'm marking this as answer though because trying a different flash drive did the trick.

So the problem may well be the flash drive, not the USB ports or the drivers. InterLinked Thanks. Even if this didn't actually make the difference in your case, I know from experience that it sometimes really is the issue. InterLinked different flash drive means the previous one did not have correct drivers installed or was damaged but in that case it would also not work on new computer.

I have an adapter to use a floppy drive to read and write SmartMedia cards, which I bought in the days before USB when its competitor was ,bps serial. Rather than plugging into a floppy cable, the adapter went in the drive itself like a diskette. Don't know if anyone ever did a USB version of the concept, though--it would require that the USB connector itself stay outside the drive.

It is significantly more complicated to transfer files that way, as you first have to create floppy images. Spektre Spektre 6, 12 12 silver badges 29 29 bronze badges. NUSB 3. You install it at own risk!

I remember doing things like playing solitaire and making my grandparents gift cards in Print Shop. Times have changed a lot since the times of W98 and one of those changes is USB. If you have your own W98 machine in you have probably realized that USB thumb drives don't work natively.

That is where this instructable comes in. You can find it here. If this link isn't working just send me a message and I can send it to you directly. After the driver is on your modern computer, you need to transfer it to the W98 PC. There are a few ways to do this such as a CD or a floppy disk. If your W98 computer doesn't have a CD drive, you can always pick them up for a few bucks at a thrift store.

Once you get the driver on the W98 PC, you are going to want to put it somewhere easy to access like your Desktop or Documents.

This is extremely important if you aren't using a mouse for the installation. Before you install the driver, you are going to have to delete all of the old USB drivers. You can do this by right-clicking on "My Computer" if you don't have a mouse, use tab and arrow keys to select "My Computer" and press the menu key. All that is left is to run "nusb36e". Just run the driver, accept the Licence Agreement, and install it.
