Jonathan blow japanese games

They're currently involved in a three-week long episode series on the differences between the two genres. Demon's and Dark souls are more similar to Zelda, which is a Japanese game. Too many developers cannot tell the difference between games that are hard and games that hard while still being fair to the player.

The key is to watch player reaction during beta testing. If a player is getting their ass handed to them over and over and they are blaming the game then there is an issue. But if a player is getting repeated royal beatdowns yet blames themselves for not paying attention, not reacting, etc then you know you are on the right track.

Too many developers cheat the player as a means of increasing difficulty and such design is simple idiocy. No one will admit it but the Mass Effect series is rife with this sort of crap design.

So true mass effect seems to of been watered down after each instalment in order to make it more "user friendly" holding hand and they need to realize that's not what made the first mass effect so great and gained millions of fans in the first place. The title is misleading because Blow said something totally different from that. I wonder if phil fish is the same way.

Which is why it's a pity that both games bore me. But I respect them for what they are. Please give me examples of other games from Japan this gen of the quality of Demon's and Dark Souls? Mmm, I don't think it is fair to pin the "hand-holding" label strictly on Japanese games. Where's the argument that shows that Japanese games truly own this feature?

Some may even argue that the "hand-holding" philosophy to game design become popular in the west first. But who really knows? And like some posters before me mentioned, western games also are guilty of this. For ever Japanese game one can name that holds the players hand, one can name a western one.

It is unfair to say that either Eastern of Western games truly own the "hand-holding" philosophy to game design.

Both are guilty of doing this more so now than ever before. Read the interview, he did say a lot of western games are guilty of this too. Some of the best. Why do people feel like strong opinions and passionate vision for the landscape of gaming makes someone a tool? I really don't understand why people expressing themselves strongly is bad?

Gabe Newell gets panned for it, Jonathan Blow gets panned for it, Phil Fish is getting panned for it to be fair, he was kinda rude. All of these guys make great games, and it's because they have this passion and vision. You really think it's a bad quality? Braid was amazing and I somewhat agree with his statement about "hand-holding", but still that's a shame. As far as I'm concerned more Western games do a lot more hand-holding than Japanese games.

Hmmm let's see All of course relying on a twist within the story that is suppose to evoke strong spiritual insight into "life" yet comes out to be completely contrived and unsurprising when hinted at from the very start of 5hrs of gameplay that would be best described as repetitive.

Read: Overrated. I thought it was "clever" and "different", with subtile "references" to "the" video "game" industry". I for one, want cocaine to be legal. Mainly because I'm spending most of my time playing Peace Walker, which happens to be a game made by Japanese developers.

Overall, I'm just tired of these devs that stand around moaning about the industry and trying to put down other devs. Just get on with making your own games and let them do the talking.

Stay off the soapbox trying to make yourself sound important. I admit that he does not specifically say "All Japanese" games, but it would've been nice to hear some examples. Well I like Japanese and western games, so win-win for me. Hahahaha, As I look in that photo, one person pops up in my mind! I haven't played many Japanese games, either. Nah, not too many Japanese games. And they all held my hand, weren't a challenge, and weren't unique.

Call of duty is very unique and fun, so is Battlefield, Medal of Honour, Counterstrike etc. Wow, so unique and fun gameplay. Hope you see the irony in my post. I prefer eastern gameplay than west, hands down. This gen I played a lot less videogames, is it because the west took over the gaming industry more?

I, with many others, thinks this was the worst gen ever. The only good thing was online play, but there were and is too many military shooters.

You can't be serious. East has some great games. West does also, seriously, your just gonna talk about shooters? How many of those are shooters? TBH, your just nostalgic. Two gens ago, it was all about platformers. Last gen, we saw tons of RPGS and some platformers.

As for shooters, all those shooters are different. Compare Call of Duty to Battlefield to Halo. Expand the sub menu Awards. Expand the sub menu Video. Expand the sub menu What to Hear.

Expand the sub menu Digital. Expand the sub menu Theater. Expand the sub menu VIP. Expand the sub menu More Coverage. Expand the sub menu More Variety. Switch edition between U. Gee, why would weebfaqs get mad at someone saying "Japanese games suck"? McgeesAlice 8 months ago InfinityOver0 posted Zellio 8 months ago Frenzify 8 months ago He's got every right to say it.

He's also got every right to be called out on it. It's as stupid as someone saying western games suck. It's such an overgeneralisation that obviously people would call it out for being dumb.

MARl0 8 months ago People got upset because it was a stupid comment. An easy answer to an easy question. Naruzeldamaster 8 months ago It's not what was said, it's how he said it and the tone used when he said it. He's probably played dozens of japanese games without even realizing it.

McgeesAlice posted Bigot tag coming in handy here. Well that's going to be a false tag. Most of my favorite games are Japanese. My point was theres a lot of Japanese users and Japanese game fans here. That's not to say phil didn't have some good points, he did but the way he expressed them was inflammatory.
